What does travel look like in 2021 and beyond?

Updated: Aug 8, 2021

On the morning of Sunday, August 9th, I watched Bloomberg TVs Studio One with guest Brian Chesky. The owner and founder of Airbnb. Airbnb now a familiar household name is an American vacation rental online marketplace company based in San Francisco, California. Brian reeled me in with his pure genius, intelligence, and ingenuity as he discusses the significant impact of this year on everyone around the world. He dives into the realities surrounding the new world of travel, what is to come and how to navigate the more long-lasting trend changes.

Airbnb has come to popularity as millennials began to come of age and of course always searching for the most innovative and inexpensive temporary housing while traveling. Peer to peer once

again rears its head as complete strangers began to trust and open their homes to travelers worldwide, all made possible by the Airbnb mobile platform.

Hosts around the world were stricken with fear when the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown the hospitality industry's driving revenue...travelers. Brian Chesky having to lay off over 1,900 employees in the darkest hour this year, was still hopeful and ready to pivot in his approach to hosting experiences.

In what ways did he implement innovative changes?

  • Greater emphasis on extended stays, longer than 30 days with partner Zeus Living. For those with cabin fever, many millennials traveled to new places to enjoy work from home benefits.

Brian sees travel changing for families as well. Families will opt for travel that is more remote and close to home or within driving distance, road trips over flights. An intimate and a great exile being camping at national parks which has seen a downtrend in tourism over the past 20 years.

Market Watch:

Airbnb files to go public, turned a profit last quarter

"The company said it would set up 9.2 million shares of non-voting stock aside in an endowment fund for hosts."

Rest assured this will be the company shares to grab for sure. I will keep you updated.

Peace,
